We live in a world of customization, Why would we demand any less of our diet?

Diet programs today offer results based on one-size-fits-all solutions: cut out fat to slim down; eat more protein to build muscle. How can these diet fads possibly achieve success if each of us burn fuel and create energy in our own unique way? Focusing on how you make energy is the real key to improving your health. Diet Typing Systems (DTS) offers what no other diet can: a complete plan based on the way your body works.

The DTS system boosts metabolism at its most basic level: where energy production really takes place, within cells. This process is the foundation of health. It controls growth, stamina and the healing of injuries. It has the power to protect us against infections, increase focus, and much more. In order to give our cells the chance to function optimally our cells require not only the right nutrients, but also in the correct macronutrient ratios.

The process of producing energy is strongly influenced by genetics. So the first step toward success is our customized approach. The DTS assessment tells us the correct balance of carbohydrates and fats for your body—the very foods used to create energy. We then strengthen your nutritional health further: identifying the right foods within that special balance that address your personal health concerns and challenges. We do mention protein as a fuel source. Protein has many valuable purposes and should be consumed at the levels right for you. It can be used as a fuel source, but protein is not metabolized well as fuel without first being processed via an inefficient chain of exchanges and is the least desirable of the three macronutrients. DTS focuses on Sugar (carbohydrates) and Fats for fuel.

The body produces the energy we all want by factories within our cells– called mitochondria – whose function is to break down raw materials into usable fuel. The break-down process occurs in two ways: one process breaks down carbohydrates (from fruits, vegetables, potatoes, dairy, sugars, most grains, etc.), another breaks down fats (found in meats, nuts, oils, dairy, avocados, etc.). So both carbohydrates and fats can be turned into energy.

Every cell relies on a combination of these chemical reactions to break down raw material. We know that each person has different strengths and weaknesses, are cells are no different. If they are not working together in balance, the system gets backed up, and energy production, used to create health, becomes compromised. Toxins can build up in the body which will slow you down, causing or complicating health problems, and not enough of the right energy is being produced to fix those issues.

When your body is given the wrong foods in the wrong ratios it creates a domino effect, and ultimately your body cannot then use fuel (food) efficiently to power the functions that keep you healthy.

DTS helps people function optimally because it measures which system each person is “leaning” on the most for energy production, and then provides each person with a detailed list of foods that will assist them in living optimally. At DTS, we don’t judge one fuel as better than the other, or why each body might prefer one fuel over the other. Each person and their body know best, and when their body is given the fuel source it is seeking it will fix itself.

Here’s an example. Karen is a fat-burner and this means that she breaks down fats works more efficiently than she breaks down sugars. But she has no idea that she is a fat burner. Seeking to optimize her health, she sticks to a low fat diet, consisting mostly of carbohydrates: lots of fruit, snacking on crackers, low-fat yogurt, wheat bread, and pasta. As a treat; Low fat frozen yogurt. To many people this sounds ‘heart healthy.’ But in fact, all these foods convert into sugars, and Karen’s sugar burning system is not the strongest way for her body to create energy. Her fat burning system is more powerful, more efficient and the key for her to produce the adequate amount of energy. But she is not consuming enough healthy fat to fuel this process. In addition, the sugar her body can’t use starts to plug up the processes that are actually working well. She believes she is eating a healthy diet, and yet 1-2 hours after a meal she is tired, irritable, and for months has been putting on weight. On a cellular level, her blood sugar is too high and she is at risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and a slew of other health challenges. Testing Karen would identify that her body is efficient at using fat as fuel as opposed to carbohydrates, to live optimally, then identifying a diet of the right foods, and in the right ratios of protein, fats and carbohydrates will put her on the path to optimal health.

In order to live healthy and feel good, we must make the most of our energy in the most efficient way possible. At DTS, we recognize that in order to do that we must determine each person’s nutritional type while also tailoring your diet to any health challenges you may face. By boosting energy, you have the pep to live a healthy, productive life—and by choosing the right foods you get the right food plan for you.
